The Detroit Red Wings soar into Amerant Bank Arena to play the Florida Panthers on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN) after winning seven of their previous eight games.

The Red Wings certainly don't miss former head coach Derek Lalonde, winning seven of nine since his long-expected departure. Despite their sparkling form, Detroit is the clear underdog against a Panthers team among the Stanley Cup odds favorites.

The San Jose Sharks ended Detroit's seven-game winning run on Tuesday. And while the Red Wings probably won't fall off a cliff immediately, I don't expect their post-Lalonde surge to last. 

While the Panthers are just 3-3-1 in their last seven games at home, I like them to prevail in regulation. However, at -140, there's not enough value in backing a team plagued by recent inconsistency. The Red Wings to score at least 2.5 goals is another appealing bet.

They've scored at least three goals in eight straight. I have a suspicion, though, that they're on a collision course with some scoring regression.

Meanwhile, the Red Wings captain has registered at least three shots in seven of the last nine contests. Larkin averaged 3.9 shots per outing in that stretch.

He hit the Over in two of his last three games against the Panthers. Finally, the Panthers are, somewhat bewilderingly, allowing the eighth-most shots against per game on home ice (29.3). Larkin can take advantage. If he does, a winning $10 bet will profit $9.52.

Evan Rodrigues is one of the most productive players with limited ice time. While his average ice time of 11:13 in the last two contests is concerning, Rodrigues has hit the Over in six of the previous seven games, including three straight. He's also fired two shots or more on goal in five of the last seven games at Amerant Bank Arena.

Even if he plays only 11 minutes, I still like his chances of testing the Red Wings goaltender (most likely Cam Talbot) twice.
