The 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs have claimed two teams and a cluster of teams led by the Carolina Hurricanes sit atop the Stanley Cup odds from our best NHL betting sites.

The Carolina Hurricanes entered the 2024 postseason as the consensus favorites based on the Stanley Cup odds from our best sports betting sites. The Hurricanes' odds have continued to shorten through the first round as they eliminated the New York Islanders and set up a second-round battle with the New York Rangers.

The Florida Panthers punched their ticket to the second round by eliminating the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday. Over the Western Conference, the Colorado Avalanche joined them on Tuesday.

The Edmonton Oilers have a 3-1 lead over the Los Angeles Kings and have their first crack at the second round when the two clubs meet Wednesday.

Elsewhere, the Boston Bruins hold a 3-2 lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Vancouver Canucks hold a 3-2 lead over the Nashville Predators, and the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights are squared up 2-2.

We're breaking down the latest Stanley Cup odds from our best sports betting apps below.

2024 Stanley Cup favorites

Hurricanes (+400 via bet365)

The Hurricanes entered the Stanley Cup playoffs as the hottest team in the NHL, and despite one blip against the New York Islanders that prevented the sweep, they moved on to the second round with relative ease.

The Hurricanes knocked out the Isles with a 6-3 win on Tuesday and will now face the New York Rangers with a trip to the Eastern Conference finals on the line.

Panthers (+500 via BetMGM)

The Panthers awoke from their slumber just in time, winning four straight games to close the season and claim first place in the Atlantic Division. They were chugging right along before a Game 4 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, but they completed the task on Monday to send the Lightning home and advance to the second round.

Florida now awaits the winner of the Boston vs. Toronto series to determine its next opponent.

Golden Knights (+2100 via FanDuel)

Vegas lost both of its home games in the series after jumping out to a 2-0 series lead against the Dallas Stars, but this has been a very tight series and can certainly swing again as it shifts back to American Airlines Center in Texas.

The Golden Knights have the pedigree to go all the way, but they'll need to find a way to solve Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger in short order to make it a reality.

How to read Stanley Cup odds

Stanley Cup odds reflect the probability of each NHL team winning the championship and are typically presented in American odds format (+XXX). Lower odds signify favoritism, while higher odds indicate underdog status.

A team with +750 odds to win the Stanley Cup is given an 11.76% implied probability of doing so with a $10 bet returning a $75 profit with a victory. A team with +1500 odds would have higher or longer odds, and a lower implied probability of 6.25%, but a win on a $10 bet would return a profit of $150.

Bettors should consider team performance, roster strength, injuries, and historical trends when assessing odds. By comparing odds across sportsbooks, individuals can make informed betting decisions during the NHL playoffs.
