The Vegas Golden Knights bested the Dallas Stars in Game 1, setting up a must-win for the No. 1 seed at home in Game 2, as we offer our best Golden Knights vs. Stars predictions based on the best NHL odds

In a timely and somewhat controversial return for the Vegas Golden Knights, Mark Stone wasted no time making an impact with the opening goal just 1:23 into Game 1 against the Dallas Stars. That was just part of the five-goal flurry in the opening period on Monday to open this first-round series.

Vegas ultimately secured a 4-3 victory and improved its Stanley Cup odds along the way. With their backs against the wall, the Stars will feel the pressure heading into Wednesday's Game 2, set for 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

To complement our Bruins vs. Maple Leafs player props, here are our best Golden Knights vs. Stars predictions and NHL picks for Wednesday's Game 2 (odds via our best NHL betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Golden Knights vs. Stars predictions for Wednesday

Under 5.5 goals ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Seeing another five-goal first-period outburst would be more surprising than witnessing a repeat of the 13-goal thriller in the Colorado Avalanche-Winnipeg Jets series. Since Feb. 26, the Stars have prided themselves on having a defense tighter than Scrooge's purse strings. Dallas had the league's fourth-most stingy defense in the final 13 home games, allowing 2.15 goals per game.

Jake Oettinger was primarily culpable for the Stars' porous Game 1 outing. The usually reliable netminder allowed four goals on 15 shots. Oettinger is a crucial variable to a deep and successful playoff run, so expect him to have an immeasurably better outing in Game 2. A winning $10 bet at +105 pays a profit of $10.50 and has a 48.78% implied probability.

Stars ML ⭐⭐⭐

While nobody in Dallas will be pushing the panic button, labeling Game 2 a must-win accurately reflects their current situation. The Stars lost the first three games of last season's Western Conference Final, making it impossible to overturn the Grand Canyon-size hole they dug for themselves. Going back to Dallas two games down is not an option, which should inject Superhero-like desire and motivation to square the series.

The Stars haven't lost two games in a row since falling in back-to-back home games to the Florida Panthers and New Jersey Devils in mid-March. Three of four games against the Golden Knights this season were decided by one goal, including Monday's opener, so expect another nip-and-tuck affair. With a 60.78% implied probability, a $10 winning bet at bet365 pays a $6.45 profit.

Jamie Benn Over 2.5 shots ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Jamie Benn played like Dr. Bruce Banner on Monday after becoming agitated. It was a Hulk-like performance that included a goal and seven shots, the most pucks he's fired on net all season.

Benn is a captain who leads by example, especially in the postseason. He's not known for getting a ton of shots, but the veteran should be even more motivated after coming up short in Game 1.

He's averaged 2.6 shots per game in 84 playoff contests and should register enough to hit the Over for the third straight contest. The plus-money odds at FanDuel (+136) provide extra allure, ensuring a winning $10 bet yields a $13.60 profit. The implied probability is 42.37%.
