Calder Trophy Odds 2025: Return of the Macklin as Michkov Plunges
It's the return of the Macklin, as Macklin Celebrini soars ahead as the Calder Trophy odds favorite at our NHL betting sites.
Matvei Michkov's odds have fallen off a cliff after a rotten spell of two points in 12 games. Meanwhile, Lane Huston is turning heads in Montreal and has leapfrogged Michkov on the leaderboard.
Let's take a look at the Calder Trophy odds in more detail.
Calder Trophy odds 2025
Here are the latest Calder Trophy notes:
- Hutson is surging and has the most points of all rookies (30), an impressive stat considering he is a blue-liner
- Michkov is ice cold, with just four points in the last 16 after a scorching-hot streak
- Celebrini has the most points per game of all rookies (.90)
- Wolf, the highest-ranked goaltender among the five favorites, is our new Calder Trophy odds player to watch
Calder Trophy favorites 2025
Macklin Celebrini Calder Trophy odds (-225)
Celebrini is the real deal and will live up to the lofty hype of being the top pick. He endured a frustrating first month in the NHL due to a recurring hip injury. However, he has rebounded better than anyone could have hoped for and is amassing points at an elite rate.
Buoyed by a stretch of at least a point in eight of nine games, Celebrini is well ahead of the chasing pack where the odds are concerned.
Celebrini is scoring at the highest clip of all rookies, notching .90 points per game. He's currently behind Michkov by two points and Hutson by a point, but that won't last long based on his superior points-per-game clip.
In the 13 games since Dec. 9, Celebrini has scored a point per game, just ahead of Hutson's 0.92. There's minimal value in his -225 odds, where a $10 bet would profit $4.44. I'd wait to see if there are more turns in this race, as there have been for most of the campaign.
Best odds: -225 via DraftKings | Implied probability: 69.23%
Matvei Michkov Calder Trophy odds (+575)
Michkov is enduring an extended rookie scoring slump, notching just two points in 12 games. Those points came in the same game against the Los Angeles Kings. He's minus-14 in that stretch, regressing to his pre-benching state where John Tortorella made him ride the pine for a brief stint.
Michkov has endured a rollercoaster rookie campaign, but there could be more twists and turns ahead, as he has the capability to break loose like he did when scoring 10 points in a five-game stretch.
As it stands, a $10 bet at BetMGM would profit $57.50.
Best odds: +575 via BetMGM | Implied probability: 14.81%

Dustin Wolf Calder Trophy odds (+7000)
If you haven't heard, Wolf loves playing in front of the Calgary crowd at the Scotiabank Saddledome, and it's one of the primary reasons the Flames are in the wild-card mix. He is tied with Anthony Stolarz for the best save percentage (.937) and the sixth-best goals-against average (2.06) on home ice for goalies with at least five starts.
He has 7.5 goals saved above expected, the 16th-best ranking via MoneyPuck.com.
While he probably won't win, Wolf represents the best flier pick and has the shortest odds after the dominant triumvirate of Celebrini, Hutson, and Michkov. A winning $10 bet would profit $700.
Best odds: +7000 via Caesars | Implied probability: 1.41%
How to bet on Calder Trophy futures odds
There are a few essential tips to keep in mind before locking in your Calder Trophy futures picks, including:
Playing time: Make sure the player you're backing will be a consistent on-ice presence. While there's heaps of merit in picking a potentially excellent rookie who plays for a bonafide contender, like Stankoven, it's crucial to ensure they'll log consistent minutes.
How good is the team they play for? While some rookies are so elite that the team they play for is inconsequential, like Bedard in Chicago, not all players are part of that rarified air. Unless they are all but guaranteed to score points, don't jump in too fast on high draft picks playing for terrible teams. That said, at least you'll know they will get a ton of ice time.
Will they be the star of the show? No. 1 pick Celebrini will invariably be the star of the show in San Jose, making him an excellent Calder Trophy pick.
The same can be said for Wolf, who should be the No. 1 netminder in Calgary for the 2024-25 season. He'll have the platform to prove himself, with many eyes judging his every move. While that can go one of two ways, Wolf will be the architect of his own Calder Trophy destiny.
Second-year players that qualify: Stankoven played 24 games last year for the Stars, one under the 25-game threshold permitted to be eligible for the Calder Trophy.
That makes him arguably the best candidate for the 2024-25 award. He was outstanding in the Stars' Western Conference Final run and has a leg up on the other "rookies."
College or international experience: More mature players who have roughed it up in other professional leagues worldwide, like Michkov, with 91 games in the KHL under his belt, have an advantage over other rookies entering the NHL directly from the juniors.
The same can be said, though not quite to the same extent, for players who've spent a few years in the college ranks. Just make sure they'll be on the roster come training camp.
Position-based picks: Like the Hart Trophy, the Calder Trophy is often handed out to offensive-minded players who entertain and consistently produce on the scoresheet. A goaltender last won the award in 2008-09, while only three of the previous 11 winners were defensemen.
