Headed to SBR’s one-of-a-kind International Football Betting Conference in Las Vegas from Aug. 24-26? Here’s a look at the planned speakers to get bettors ready for the NCAA & NFL seasons.
This year’s International Football Betting Conference (IFBC) brought to you by Sportsbook Review is held Aug. 24-26 at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. It’s a chance to celebrate the new football year with SBR pros, social media followers, SBR staff and well-known figures from the sports betting and sports media landscape. The weekend is highlighted by football handicapping conferences.
In fact, the college football weekend kicks off during the weekend, with two FBS games on Aug. 25: Hawaii at Colorado State and Wyoming at New Mexico State. The full NCAA season then begins on Thursday, Aug. 30, and the NFL season kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 6, with the Atlanta Falcons visiting the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch of last season’s low-scoring Divisional Round game in Philly.
Should you automatically be hammering the Eagles this season because they had the best cover percentage in the NFL last year at 68.4 (including playoffs)? Steer clear of the Cleveland Browns because of their NFL-worst percentage of 25? Last season was the second straight that the Browns finished at the bottom of the league’s ATS standings and the Super Bowl champions at the top – in 2016, New England was an NFL-best 16-3 ATS including playoffs. That tied for the most ATS wins in any NFL season.
How about contrarian betting? The average joe tends to bet favorites but the sharps understand the importance of getting the best of the number. Did you know that nearly a quarter of all NFL games finish with a margin of victory of either 3 or 7 points? When should you buy a half-point or buy back underdogs at better prices?
You will get answers to those questions and more at the conference.
Below is the official itinerary for the IFBC Vegas Bash. SBR is pleased to announced a special guest this year in former NFL coach Jim Fassel. He was head coach of the New York Giants from 1997-2003, winning 1997 NFL Coach of the Year honors, and had a 58-53-1 regular-season record. His 2000 team was his best as that club went 12-4 in the regular season and won the NFC but lost to that legendary Baltimore Ravens defense in Super Bowl XXXV in Tampa, 34-7. The leader of that Baltimore defense, linebacker Ray Lewis, was just inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Before going to the Giants in 1991 as QBs coach and eventually offensive coordinator prior to landing the top job, Fassel also served as offensive coordinator for a few schools in college -- he recruited John Elway out of high school, coaching him at Stanford -- and was a head coach at Utah from 1985-89. Following his stint as Giants head coach, Fassel was offensive coordinator of the Ravens for three years and head coach, GM and president of the UFL’s Las Vegas Locomotives for four. Fassel played quarterback at Fullerton College, USC and Long Beach State and was drafted in the seventh round by the Chicago Bears in the 1972 NFL Draft.Friday, Aug. 24
