NFL MVP Odds 2024-25: Race Between Jackson, Allen Closer Than Odds Suggest When Market Closed

Associated Press voters had quite the decision to make when they chose which player would be anointed the 2024-25 NFL MVP. 

Josh Allen was the clear favorite across our NFL prop betting sites when the market closed. However, the significance of those odds felt diminished when Lamar Jackson was named the first team All-Pro ahead of Allen by the same voters who decided on the MVP. 

You'd have to look back to 1987 to source the last time the All-Pro quarterback and MVP quarterback weren't the same person. You might recognize the names, as John Elway took MVP, and Joe Montana was the first-team All-Pro.  

At least there's precedent if you backed Allen. In any case, I'm sure both players would concede defeat if it meant winning the Lombardi Trophy.

• Allen's odds remained at -230 after Week 18 concluded, and then his price became much shorter at -470 when some of our NFL prop betting sites reposted odds the following day

• Jackson's odds shortened from +260 to +210 after throwing for 271 yards and two touchdown passes and adding another 63 yards on the ground against the Cleveland Browns. However, his price grew again to +350 when markets reopened

Josh Allen MVP odds (-470)

The NFL MVP award can be a narrative-based honor, and Allen has enjoyed plenty of significant moments, often under the prime-time spotlight. Against the Los Angeles Rams, for example, he became the first quarterback to score three rushing and three passing touchdowns.

Perhaps the even greater example is the dazzling play on Sunday Night Football when Allen and wideout Amari Cooper improvised in the snow. The quarterback took a toss from his receiver before diving toward the pylon for a touchdown.

He also came up in the clutch against the Chiefs, scampering for 26 yards and punching it into the end zone to put that game to bed, ending Kansas City's unbeaten run. 

Allen scored four touchdowns (two passing and two rushing) in Detroit against one of the league's best teams, too, helping the Bills to a demonstrative 48-42 triumph.

Lamar Jackson MVP odds (+350)

Jackson culminated another otherworldly season with two more touchdown passes in Week 18, making it 41 in total to just four interceptions. The signal-caller also finished with 915 rushing yards, and just before his 28th birthday, he'd already passed Michael Vick to become the all-time rushing yards leader at the quarterback position. 

His statistics are unquestionably superior to Allen's production. But has he done enough to win his third MVP award? The oddsmakers at our best sports betting sites still seem to think he trails significantly, as Allen is getting an 82.46% implied probability to win, while Jackson sits far back at 22.22%.

Jackson received 30 first-place All-Pro votes to Allen's 18, according to NFL insider Peter Schrager. Historically, that has almost always been a pre-cursor to winning MVP. What a nice payday that would be for those who backed him to win before the odds closed when he was fetching +350 odds. 

Saquon Barkley MVP odds (+8000)

Barkley stepped up in Jalen Hurts' absence, carrying the Philadelphia Eagles to a lopsided win in Week 17. That performance was outstanding, but it won't be enough for Barkley to move the needle on the MVP discourse.

I'm sure his 2,005 rushing yards will offer solace after one of the contending quarterbacks is anointed.

Unfortunately for Barkley, his Hail Mary to win MVP was breaking Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record. The Penn State product finished 100 yards shy of tying the record, but he wasn't offered a chance of making history after resting in Week 18. 

As a result, Barkley's MVP odds lengthened significantly from +2500 to +8000, effectively ending his campaign for the award.

Joe Burrow MVP odds (+30000)

Burrow entered the race late in the season and deserves even more recognition. Unfortunately, his defense continually let him down. Had that unit been able to do the minimal lifting to support a steamrolling offense and get the Bengals to the playoffs, the outcome in this market might have been much different for Burrow.

Despite a comparatively subpar season finale, in which he fumbled and threw a pick, Burrow's odds shortened from +2200 to +1400 on Saturday. However, when books reposted he fell down significantly, moving even below Jared Goff to sit in fourth at a whopping +30000.
