Commanders vs. Eagles Early Picks, Predictions & NFC Championship Odds
One of the remaining two teams was supposed to be in the NFC Championship. The other, the Washington Commanders, surprised the world when they upset the Detroit Lions at Ford Field, punching their first NFC Championship Game ticket in 34 years.
The Commanders will storm into Philadelphia on Sunday (3 p.m. ET, FOX) brimming with confidence, looking to become the second team to beat the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field this season. The Eagles are 10-1 at home and have opened as 4.5 to 5.5-point favorites across our best NFL betting sites.
Our Commanders vs. Eagles early picks and predictions analyze the chances of Washington keeping things close and covering the NFC Championship odds.
My early Commanders vs. Eagles prediction: Commanders +5.5

Prediction: Commanders +5.5
Best odds: -110 via BetMGM | Implied probability: 52.38%
The football world watched Jalen Hurts' knee buckle in the third quarter on a sack by Los Angeles Rams safety Jaylen McCollough. Neutrals and Philadelphia fans breathed a collective sigh of relief when Hurts returned for the next series. He says his knee will be fine for Sunday's contest.
Even if it's not, Hurts will almost assuredly play.
The question is how much his mobility will be impacted. I'm sure we all remember what happened to the Eagles when Hurts couldn't finish the last time the Eagles met the Commanders. As a quick refresher, Philly lost that game, 36-33, throwing away a 21-7 lead in the process.
Saquon Barkley ripped the Commanders apart in the two regular-season tilts, registering 150 yards in the first and 146 in the second game while hitting pay dirt four times in those contests. While I don't think the Commanders can prevent Barkley from another monster game, they can focus their attention squarely on him if Hurts isn't able to scamper as he usually does.
And at this stage, it's impossible to doubt Jayden Daniels' ability to get it done. He'll admittedly be playing a far superior defense than the Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That said, Daniels went off against the Eagles in Week 16, tossing five touchdown passes compared to two picks.
The chances of that happening again are minuscule, but the Commanders are playing with house money behind a fearless quarterback who is mature and composed beyond his years. With a healthy, on-fire Daniels and a banged-up Hurts, I'm way more amenable to the idea of backing Washington to keep the contest within five points.
A winning $10 bet on the Commanders +5.5 will profit $9.09.

Moneyline
- Eagles best odds: -220 via bet365 | Implied probability: 68.75%
- Commanders best odds: +192 via Caesars | Implied probability: 34.25%
The Commanders' moneyline odds range from +185 to +192. While Caesars currently offers the best value, I foresee the line increasing across the board in the lead-up to kickoff. Jump on the bet365's -220 now if you're an Eagles backer, as I can't see the price getting much better.
Spread
- Eagles best odds: -4.5 (-110) via DraftKings
- Commanders best odds: +5.5 (-110) via BetMGM
The Eagles are favored by 4.5 points at most of our best sportsbooks. However, they're 5-point favorites at Caesars and 5.5 at BetMGM. As I believe the spread will increase across our best NFL betting sites to align with BetMGM's -5.5, you should take the -4.5 if you plan on backing Philly.
If you're looking to back the Commanders, BetMGM is the place to lock in your wager. While there's a good chance the spread will increase across the board, it shouldn't move too much from the +5.5 currently offered. You might want to wait and see if it moves to 6 or 6.5 in the coming days before committing.
Over/Under
- Over best odds: 47.5 (-110) via FanDuel
- Under best odds: 48.5 (-110) via DraftKings
As always, keep a close eye on Philadelphia's forecast in the lead-up to the showcase game.
The weather wreaked havoc on the Los Angeles Rams offense for much of the second half before Philadelphia's late-game implosion. Barkley's second-half touchdown gave the Eagles a 13-point advantage, changing how the home team defended. That was the gateway to a quick increase in points' accumulation.
Currently, there's only a 30% chance of precipitation. It will be cold, but that shouldn't favor either team.
It's the league's best defense against one of the most efficient offenses. So, which will prevail? The Eagles won the first head-to-head matchup, 26-18, while the Commanders came back in the second meeting after Hurts was forced out due to injury in a 36-33 win. I expect the NFC Championship to transpire more similarly to the first game.
