Malik Monk (+600)
All things considered, Monk has the perfect situation for a Sixth Man of the Year candidate. He's guaranteed a bench role but often finishes games out alongside his close friend De'Aaron Fox in the backcourt. He also plays on one of the fastest, most offense-forward squads in the NBA.
And yet, even though he came into last season as a massive favorite and was expected to take home the award as late as the campaign's final weeks, Naz Reid's rebounding and added defensive stats along with decent scoring production stole the trophy from Monk.
Monk was widely expected to depart the Kings in free agency, but with a new four-year, $78-million deal to remain in California's capital, he once again makes sense as a top Sixth Man.
Monk put up the best campaign of his career last year, averaging a personal best 15.4 points per game along with 5.1 assists in 26 minutes off the bench across 72 contests. He shot 44.3% from the field, 35% from 3-point range and 82.9% from the free throw line.
The biggest thing working against Monk this season is the addition of heavy usage wing DeMar DeRozan from the Chicago Bulls. If Monk shares the floor with DeRozan, Fox, and Domantas Sabonis late in games, he may slide down a notch in the scoring pecking order, diminishing his scoring tally.
Because Monk doesn't provide much in rebounding or defensive stats, he'll need to bump up his assist tally by a fair margin to keep pace with the field if his scoring does indeed drop a couple points per game with the DeRozan addition.

My NBA Sixth Man of the Year candidate to watch
Miles McBride (+2000)
It's an understatement to say it was a busy offseason for the New York Knicks. Out are Randle and DiVincenzo, and in are Mikal Bridges and Towns. It seems nearly certain that the team's starting five will be All-Star Jalen Brunson along with OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, Bridges, and Towns, with a massive drop-off after that.
That leaves the door wide open for Miles McBride to make a huge impact in his fourth NBA season. McBride's competitors for backcourt bench minutes are journeymen Landry Shamet and Cam Payne, but some major moments in last year's playoffs surely give the West Virginia product the inside track in head coach Tom Thibodeau's rotation.
After putting up a career-best 8.3 points per game in the regular season, McBride improved in the playoffs where his minutes per game jumped to 26.7 after sitting under 20 all year. He averaged 11 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists while making nearly two threes a game in the postseason.
Beyond his clear pathway to major minutes with the roster changes and his playoff performance, McBride has also put together a very productive preseason campaign this year. He's putting up 17.3 points and 3.7 assists per game in an extended role.
Lastly, McBride will be constantly in the national spotlight with the championship-contending and nationally relevant Knicks being central in the NBA ecosystem. A couple of big games under the bright lights could help turn McBride into a long-shot winner for Sixth Man of the Year this season.
