French Open favorites
Carlos Alcaraz (+190 via FanDuel)
Alcaraz, the consensus favorite, hasn't yet won the French Open. The world No. 3 won his first major trophy at the US Open in 2022, which he followed up with a title at the All England Club in 2023. The two-time Grand Slam winner advanced to the 2023 French Open semifinal, his best result in three appearances at Roland-Garros.
The 20-year-old phenom was ousted in the quarterfinal at the Australian Open, his worst result since Wimbledon in 2022. Like his idol Nadal, Alcaraz is a clay-court specialist, hence the short +150 odds Caesars is offering. Alcaraz lost to Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinal of the Madrid Open, one of the French Open's primary warmup tournaments.
Iga Swiatek (+100 via DraftKings)
Swiatek has won three of her five appearances at the French Open and is a force of nature on clay, with her agility, deft touch, and ability to adapt to the slower surface separating her from everyone else.
She is the mammoth frontrunner for good reason. The world No. 1 has four major titles, 75% of which were obtained at Roland-Garros.
Novak Djokovic (+290 via FanDuel)
Despite losing in the semifinals in Melbourne, it's hard not to recommend a major ticket on Joker.
Djokovic withdrew from the Madrid Open after not being entered into the main draw. He has played in only four tournaments this season, one being the Australian Open, and is looking for his first title in 2024.
Despite winning two of the previous three titles in Paris, the French Open is by means his favorite event. Before his 2021 title, Djokovic won just once in 16 appearances. If Nadal isn't in peak form, which is fairly likely considering his longstanding injury woes, Djokovic should still be the one to beat. Alcaraz would probably have something to say about that assertion.
The defending champion eliminated Alcaraz in the semifinal of the 2023 event in four sets and is 3-2 overall against the dynamic Spaniard.
Aryna Sabalenka (+600 via BetMGM)
Sabalenka is coming off her second straight Australian Open title, and the oddsmakers responded by moving her odds from +800 to about +400 before landing on +600. Her second-favorite status is accurate based on recent results and overall form. However, Sabalenka doesn't usually have her best stuff on clay, which prevents her from playing fast and consistently utilizing her unparalleled power.
The world No. 2 has advanced to six straight major semifinals, winning three. She made it to the 2023 French Open semifinal, her best result in six appearances after failing to advance past the third round in the previous five French Opens.

How to bet on tennis
Betting on tennis involves predicting the outcomes of various aspects of a match or tournament. Let's explore some popular betting markets along with examples of odds:
- Match winner: In this market, you bet on which player will win the match. For example, if Novak Djokovic is playing against Rafael Nadal and Djokovic has odds of -150 to win, it means you would need to bet $15 to win $10 if he wins. Conversely, if Nadal has odds of +200, a $10 bet on him would yield a profit of $20 if he wins.
- Set betting: This market involves predicting the correct scoreline of sets in a match. For instance, if you believe Djokovic will win 3-1 against Nadal, and the odds for that outcome are +300, a $10 bet would result in a $30 profit if your prediction is correct.
- Over/Under total games: Here, you wager on whether the total number of games played in a match will be Over or Under a set number determined by the sportsbook. If the line is set at 38.5 games and you bet the Over with odds of -110, you would need the match to have 39 or more games to win. Conversely, if you bet the Under with odds of +120, a $10 bet would return $12 in profit if the match has 38 or fewer games.
These are just a few examples of tennis betting markets, but there are many more available, each offering unique opportunities for bettors to capitalize on their knowledge of the sport. As always, it's essential to research players, consider factors like playing surface and recent form, and stay informed about tournament developments to make informed betting decisions.
