While there are still a few games left in the season, the CFL Most Outstanding Player odds race at our best sportsbooks in Canada looks to be just about wrapped up.

Among the highlights:

  • Since returning from injury, Cody Fajardo has gone from -120 to as short as -400 to win the award
  • Nathan Rourke's Week 15 benching has dropped his odds from +300 to as long as +1600
  • With the Winnipeg Blue Bombers climbing the Grey Cup odds, running back Brady Oliveira has jumped from as long as +5500 to as short as +1000 in just over a week
  • A pair of BC Lions playmakers - William Stanback and Justin McInnis - still hold an outside shot at the award

As the CFL season comes to an end, it doesn't look like any player will overtake Fajardo at our best sports betting apps in Canada.

2024 CFL Most Outstanding Player favorite

Cody Fajardo (-225)

The fact that Fajardo isn't just atop the oddsboard but is the heavy favorite really speaks to how strange a season it's been in the CFL.

Prior to getting injured on July 11, Fajardo looked like a solid bet to win the award, or at least finish second to Vernon Adams Jr. But then he missed over a month due to a hamstring injury.

However, Adams also ended up getting hurt, and then lost the Lions' starting QB job to Rourke. That put Rourke hot on Fajardo's trail before poor play and a Week 15 benching ended his shot.

This isn't to take away from Fajardo's season, but he's basically going to win the award because no other QB has been all that good.

And pretty much every starting CFL pivot has missed time this year, making it less of a negative for Fajardo's MOP case.

Regardless, he does boast the league's second-best QB rating (105.0) and is the star passer for the CFL's best team.

Still, I think the award should go to a non-QB this year. That's why I wouldn't back Fajardo, especially with a $10 winning bet paying just a $4.44 profit.

My CFL Most Outstanding Player candidate to watch

Justin McInnis (+3400)

The reason that the oddsboard for CFL MOP is so weird is because it's assumed that only a quarterback can win.

But pretty much every good QB in the league has either missed an extended amount of time with an injury or was away from the league - Kelly with a suspension and Rourke in the NFL.

So I think the best plan is to take a flier on the top non-QB. The two options I'm considering are the CFL's leading rusher, Brady Oliveira, and the leading receiver, Justin McInnis.

The ding on Oliveira is that he's scored just two touchdowns this season. But McInnis is so good that both his QBs are top-four favorites to win the award.

So rather than bet into the uncertainty of Rourke/Adams, I like going with their top target. McInnis is first in the league in receiving with 1,169 yards and seven scores on 71 receptions.

He also produced one of the best games ever this year while catching 14 passes for 243 yards against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

This award went to a receiver as recently as 2019 (Brandon Banks). Going this route leads to way better value than betting on McInnis' QBs. A $10 winning bet on him pays a $340 profit.

How to bet on CFL Most Outstanding Player

Betting on CFL Most Outstanding Player odds is straightforward. First, choose a reputable sportsbook offering CFL futures. Check the odds for each team; for example, if Nathan Rourke is +400 and Zach Collaros is +600, a $100 bet on Rourke would win you $400 if he wins Most Outstanding Player.

Place your bet by deciding how much to wager. If you bet $100 on Rourke at +400 and he wins, you’ll get $500 back ($400 profit + $100 stake). Keep an eye on the players' performances throughout the season to see how your bet is shaping up.

Future markets are mainly about performance and perception. If a player performs better or worse than expected, their odds will change. Injuries to other key players can significantly impact a player's chances and thus their odds.

Expert analysis and predictions can influence how people bet, which in turn affects the odds. Understanding these factors helps you make more informed bets and potentially take advantage of favorable odds movements.

How to read Grey Cup odds

Odds are typically presented in a format like +400 or -150. Positive odds (e.g., +400) show how much profit you’d make on a $100 bet.

For example, a $100 bet at +400 odds would win you $400, plus your original $100 stake, totaling $500. Negative odds (e.g., -150) indicate how much you need to bet to win $100. So, a $150 bet at -150 odds would win you $100, plus your $150 stake, totaling $250.

These odds also reflect the implied probability of a player winning CFL Most Outstanding Player. Lower odds (e.g., +200) suggest a higher probability of winning, while higher odds (e.g., +800) indicate a lower probability. Sportsbooks adjust these odds based on factors like team performance, injuries, trades, and betting patterns.
