MLB Rookie of the Year Odds & Favorites 2025: Sasaki Opens as NL Favorite, AL has Crowded Race
Following last season's hotly contested Rookie of the Year races in both the American and Nation Leagues, we turn our attention toward the 2025 awards. Of course, the team that features the shortest World Series odds, a massive MVP favorite, and a trio of Cy Young contenders, also features the NL Rookie of the Year favorite.
The World Series odds favorite Los Angeles Dodgers won the Roki Sasaki sweepstakes, meaning he'll serve as the favorite in the NL by the MLB Rookie of the Year odds. We always knew he'd be among the front-runners, it was just a matter of which league it'd be in. Of course, the landing spot helps his chances of winning.
With Sasaki choosing the National League, there's a massive logjam atop the AL oddsboard, with five players trading at odds shorter than +1000.
Can we find some early value in this market, or should we wait for more information closer to spring training?

AL Rookie of the Year odds analysis
Jan. 21, 2025: The AL East is well-represented atop the Rookie of the Year oddsboard, as Jasson Dominguez (New York Yankees), Coby Mayo (Baltimore Orioles), and Roman Anthony (Boston Red Sox) are trading at some of the shortest odds across our best sports betting sites.
This is quite the contrast to the NL market, which features three standout favorites and then only a couple of other players with odds shorter than even +2000.
There are two ways to attack a market like this:
- You wait for more information under the assumption that if the best sports betting apps are more or less "on the fence" when it comes to the market, your bet may not be as sound as you think, OR
- You take advantage of longer odds on a player who you truly believe should be priced as the outright favorite
Regardless, it'll be interesting to track the AL Rookie of the Year odds as we approach spring training and teams begin showing their hand a bit in terms of which first-year players will either start the season in the majors or get the call soon after the campaign begins.
Odds to win National League Rookie of the Year 2025
NL Rookie of the Year odds analysis
Jan. 21, 2025: As I mentioned above, Sasaki's status as the favorite was never in question.
The 23-year-old threw 414 2/3 innings across four seasons in Japan, managing a sparkling 2.02 ERA and 0.88 WHIP. He struck out 11.4 batters per nine innings and gave up only 16 home runs. Now, he joins the best team in baseball, which should provide him with not only plenty of run support but also elite defense en route to what I imagine to be an absurd win-loss record.
Sitting atop the NL oddsboard with Sasaki are Dylan Crews - who looked OK during a brief MLB stint with the Washington Nationals last year but could make the leap in 2025 - and Matt Shaw.
Shaw has annihilated both minor-league and collegiate pitching, and he's projected to start the season as the Chicago Cubs' third baseman.
Steamer projects Sasaki to finish with very similar stats to those of new teammate, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, during his rookie season, while Shaw projects as a solid addition to Chicago's lineup. Crews, however, profiles as more of a fantasy darling, so it remains to be seen whether that'll translate to real-life value.

MLB Rookie of the Year odds explained
One of the benefits of betting on the MLB Rookies of the Year - as is the case with most player award futures markets - is that the odds on every option are relatively long to start the season.
Therefore, by betting on Rookie of the Year, you can make your money go further by placing a smaller wager and winning more than you would with most daily markets.
The odds will shift throughout the season as players separate themselves with their performances. It's just as important to track the progression of the rookies as it is to the odds themselves.
