A strong pre-major field visits TPC San Antonio with Rory McIlroy as the consensus betting favorite while we make our Valero Texas Open picks based on the PGA Tour odds from our best golf betting sites ahead of the final tune-up event for the 2024 Masters.

The Valero Texas Open has served as the final tune-up for the Masters since 2019, and this year's field at TPC San Antonio may be one of the best.

Rory McIlroy (+750) opened as the consensus betting favorite across our best sports betting sites, with his outright Valero Texas Open odds representing an implied win probability of 11.76%. Those odds have crept up through the week, but McIlroy is still pacing this strong field of Masters favorites, contenders, and those hoping to gain the final invitation to Augusta National.

Corey Conners - a two-time winner of this event - will look to defend his 2023 title in San Antonio and win this event for a third time.

McIlroy's Masters odds are as low as +850, but those will drop even lower with a victory this week.

2024 Valero Texas Open picks

Jordan Spieth to win

Best odds: +2200 via bet365

The 2021 champion of this event, Spieth is returning to TPC San Antonio after passing on last year's tournament. Across 26 total rounds played at this venue, he has gained an average of 1.88 true strokes per round on the field.

The former World No. 1 enters this week at No. 19  in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) on the heels of back-to-back missed cuts in The Players Championship and the Valspar Championship. He took last week off and we can expect his best golf ahead of his return to Augusta National.

Spieth ranks 62nd on the PGA Tour this year in birdie-or-better percentage from inside 125 yards. Anyone who watches golf semi-regularly knows of his short game wizardry, and he ranks third in this field in SG: around-the-green since Jan. 1. He's also among the best putters in this field for the calendar year to date.

Take advantage of the outlier +2200 odds via bet365 that can be further improved by the sportsbook's 30% boost for any one Valero Texas Open market. Just click here to bring Spieth's outright odds from +2200 to +2860. That's a difference of $66 on a winning $10 bet.

Harris English to finish top 10

Best odds: +420 via FanDuel

English is returning to TPC San Antonio for the first time since a missed cut during the 2019 Valero Texas Open. He had recorded four finishes between T-30 and T-67 in this event before that.

But there's excellent value on the 40th-ranked golfer in the OWGR to finish in the top 10 this week. English owns the strong short game required for success at this venue, and he's been gaining strokes in all key metrics across his last 12 measured rounds. He also ranks fourth during the 2024 PGA Tour season in birdie-or-better percentage from this week's key distance of less than 125 yards.

The odds for English in this market are as low as +300 via Caesars, so be sure to get this +420 offering from FanDuel for an extra $12 in profit on a $10 bet.

How to bet on golf

Betting on golf involves understanding the various types of bets available and how to assess player performance. First, familiarize yourself with the different types of bets commonly offered in golf, including outright winner bets, each-way bets (which cover both a win and a top finish), head-to-head matchups between two players, and proposition bets on specific events within a tournament, such as hole-in-one occurrences or individual player performances on certain holes.

Once you've identified the types of bets you're interested in, research the players, course conditions, recent form, and other relevant factors that could influence outcomes. Pay attention to factors like player statistics, recent tournament performances, course history, and any injuries or changes in form that may affect a player's performance.
