Texas survived a scare against Clemson in the first round of the College Football Playoff, but the Longhorns (12-2) are expected to win big against the Arizona State Sun Devils (11-2) when they meet on Jan. 1 at 1 p.m. ET (ESPN) for the 2025 Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Our best college football betting sites have Texas favored by 13.5 points to beat Arizona State in the second round of the College Football Playoff, which is in line with what we saw earlier this week in the early CFP quarterfinal look-ahead odds.

Texas vs. Arizona State odds, early lines & betting analysis

The Longhorns have been among the college football championship odds favorites all season long, so it shouldn't surprise anyone to see them open as nearly two-touchdown chalk against a team picked to finish last in the Big 12.

Clearly, that wasn't the ultimate fate for the Sun Devils, who instead won 11 games including their final six games - capped off by a blowout win over Iowa State in the Big 12 title game - to earn their spot in the College Football Playoff. And they can make some noise behind do-it-all back Cam Skattebo and a surging defense.

While Skattebo felt he was deserving of Heisman Trophy odds consideration, Texas arguably boasts the better backfield with Jaydon Blue and Quintrevion Wisner rushing for two touchdowns apiece in the first round against a stout Clemson defense. Don't be surprised if those two eventually bury the Sun Devils, too.

That's why I wouldn't shy away from playing this early number before it rises above two scores. If you do like Arizona State's chances to keep it close, you might be better off waiting to see how high this one goes - especially with Texas being such a public team with so many familiar faces to casual bettors.
