Entering the Rose Bowl, just about everything had gone right for Oregon football in their debut season in the Big Ten. Then everything went wrong in a 41-21 loss to rival Ohio State in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal.

Head coach Dan Lanning will need to pick up the pieces for the Ducks, who return a potential rising star at quarterback and a top-five recruiting class but will need to replace much of their production on both sides of the ball to get another shot at a title.

We're breaking it all down in our Oregon football 2025 season preview with way-too-early predictions, odds, schedule, and transfer portal updates.

Oregon football title odds 2025

Live updated college football odds from our best college football betting sites.

We're still awaiting the opening odds for next year's college football championship odds, but Oregon should be among the favorites after claiming the No. 1 seed in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff - even after such a brutal loss in the quarterfinal.

The Ducks were +1200 when the market opened last season, and they responded by running the table in the regular season to win the Big Ten in their first year in the conference. That included a thrilling win over Ohio State in their first duel as conference rivals, though the rematch will leave a bitter taste in bettors' mouths.

That loss will surely discourage some early action, but we still expect Oregon to enter next season with similar odds to win the title with a reloaded roster.

2025 Oregon football key returning players (projected)

  • Dante Moore, QB
  • Jeremiah McClellan, WR
  • Justius Lowe, WR
  • Kenyon Sadiq, TE
  • Iopani Laloulu, C
  • Matayo Uiagalelei, DE
  • Devon Jackson, LB
  • Jerry Mixon, LB
  • Ify Obidegwu, CB
  • Rodrick Pleasant, CB
  • Sione Laulea, CB
  • Kingston Lopa, S
  • Peyton Woodyard, S

Even with QB Dillon Gabriel - who finished as a Heisman Trophy odds finalist - leaving after one year at Oregon, former top-five recruit Dante Moore is set to take the reins under center after transferring from UCLA before last season. He'll return a rising star in tight end Kenyon Sadiq and young wideouts Justius Lowe and Jeremiah McClellan.

The Ducks also return top pass-rusher Matayo Uiagalelei, who led the team with 10.5 sacks in 2024. Linebacker Devon Jackson should return in a starting role alongside Jerry Mixon, who has drawn rave reviews in practice as a future star in Eugene.

2025 Oregon football key losses, transfer portal updates

  • Dillon Gabriel, QB (graduation)
  • Jordan James, RB (NFL draft)
  • Noah Whittington, RB (NFL draft)
  • Evan Stewart, WR (NFL draft)
  • Tez Johnson, WR (graduation)
  • Traeshon Holden, WR (graduation)
  • Terrance Ferguson, TE (graduation)
  • Josh Conerly Jr., LT (NFL draft)
  • Marcus Harper, LG (graduation)
  • Matthew Bedford, RG (graduation)
  • Ajani Cornelius, RT (graduation)
  • Jordan Burch, DE (graduation)
  • Derrick Harmon, DT (NFL draft)
  • Jamaree Caldwell, DT (graduation)
  • Bryce Boettcher, LB (graduation)
  • Jeffrey Bassa, LB (graduation)
  • Brandon Johnson, CB (graduation)
  • Jabbar Muhammad, CB (graduation)
  • Nikko Reed, CB (graduation)
  • Kobe Savage, FS (graduation)
  • Tysheem Johnson, SS (graduation)

Gabriel is the biggest name leaving in 2025, though the Ducks could also be without their top three rushers and top four pass-catchers from last season depending on which players pursue their 2025 NFL Draft odds. They'll also need to turn over three starters along the offensive line assuming left tackle Josh Conerly Jr. goes pro.

This defense will feature new faces at all three levels after relying on a star-studded senior class to win 13 games last year. Derrick Harmon, Jordan Burch, Jabbar Muhammad, and Jeffrey Bassa should both hear their names called in April, though the Ducks will have a crop of young stars to take their place.

2025 Oregon football recruits, transfer commits

  • Dakorien Moore, WR (No. 4 national, No. 2 TX)
  • Na'eem Offord, CB (No. 10 national, No. 1 AL)
  • Brandon Finney, CB (No. 28 national, No. 1 MD)
  • Trey McNutt, S (No. 29 national, No. 2 OH)
  • Dorian Brew, CB (No. 50 national, No. 12 TX)
  • Douglas Utu, OT (No. 72 national, No. 1 NV)
  • Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele, QB (No. 92 national, No. 1 HI)
  • Ziyare Addison, IOL (No. 93 national, No. 14 FL)
  • Jamari Johnson, TE (transfer from Louisville)
  • Alex Harkey, OT (transfer from Texas State)
  • Isaiah World, OT (transfer from Nevada)
  • Bear Alexander, DT (transfer from USC)
  • Theran Johnson, CB (transfer from Northwestern)
  • Dillon Thieneman, S (transfer from Purdue)

Oregon is set to welcome a second straight top-five recruiting class, led by two top-10 recruits in receiver Dakorien Moore and cornerback Na'eem Offord - the latter flipping from Ohio State ahead of signing day. QB Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele also flipped from Cal and could push Moore for the starting job in 2025.

The Ducks have also been aggressive in the transfer portal, especially in the trenches. Defensive lineman Bear Alexander should have an immediate impact for Lanning's defense up front, while Isaiah World and Alex Harkey will help replenish Oregon's offensive line.

After running the table in their Big Ten debut, the Ducks face an even more manageable schedule in 2024 - especially if they can navigate the early portion of their slate.

Oregon hosts rival Oregon State on Sept. 20 ahead of a trip to Happy Valley to face Penn State in a rematch of the 2024 Big Ten Championship. If they can survive that, the Ducks avoid Ohio State and Michigan next season as they look to repeat as conference champs.

Oregon football 2025 way-too-early prediction & expert analysis

While the Ducks fell short of their championship aspirations, it's clear Lanning is building something special in Eugene. He's among the best recruiters in the country, consistently brings in impact transfers, and has one of the top coaching staffs in the country.

That's why it's important not to overreact to how much Oregon is losing this offseason. Moore is slated to be offensive coordinator Will Stein's next star QB, with the former five-star recruit having the talent to keep this offense humming. The main concern is the losses along the offensive line and defensive line, but adding Alexander next to Uiagalelei should give Oregon one of the most talented D-line duos in the Big Ten.

With an easier schedule in 2025, Oregon should have time to ease into its new starting lineup. Penn State and Indiana are the Ducks' two toughest games, so I'd seriously consider betting the Over if their win total is set at 10.5 or lower.
