Ohio State opened as the favorite by the 2024 Big Ten Championship odds from our best college football betting sites followed by newly added Oregon and reigning champion Michigan.

It's a new look in the Big Ten this season with Michigan losing head coach Jim Harbaugh to the NFL and the conference adding several former Pac-12 schools as part of expansion.

With Harbaugh gone, Ohio State sits alone as the favorite to win the Big Ten Championship and is right there with Georgia by the college football championship odds. Without a doubt, Ryan Day has one of the most talented teams in the country, but can the Buckeyes hold off newcomer Oregon?

The Ducks added a Heisman odds favorite at QB via the transfer portal and have the fourth shortest College Football Playoff odds. And of course, the Wolverines are the team that's won the last three conference titles.

Here is our look at the 2024 Big Ten championship odds (odds via our best college football betting sites).

Favorites to win 2024 Big Ten Championship

Ohio State (+165 via FanDuel)

It's been a long few years for Buckeyes fans as Day failed to defeat Michigan for three straight seasons. But the coast finally appears clear for Day with Harbaugh gone, along with several key pieces from the Wolverines' championship season.

To make the Buckeyes an even more appealing Big Ten Championship bet, Ohio State managed to bring back more than a half dozen players that were considering making the leap to the NFL. Leading them are wide receiver Emeka Egbuka and pass rushers J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer, all three of which are All-American candidates.

Ohio State didn't just recruit it's own roster well either, it took full advantage of the transfer portal. The Buckeyes added two top 10 portal players in safety Caleb Downs and running back Quinshon Judkins. And maybe most importantly, Day got an experienced QB in Kansas State transfer Will Howard, a potential riser by the 2025 NFL Draft odds.

Oregon (+240 via DraftKings)

The most dangerous of the new members added by the Big Ten from the now-defunct Pac-12, Oregon is a legit title contender this season. Head coach Dan Lanning reportedly turned down the opening at Alabama to lead the Ducks into their new conference, and he has one of the most talented rosters in the country.

Lanning replaced first-round pick Bo Nix at QB with Oklahoma transfer Dillon Gabriel and got him a shiny new toy in Texas A&M transfer Evan Stewart. Stewart joins an already loaded pass-catching room that Gabriel and his 151 total collegiate TDs should be capable of taking advantage of this season.

If that doesn't sound impressive enough, Lanning's defense should be even better than the offense. Oregon returns several future NFL players, led by defensive lineman Jordan Burch. And the Ducks' third-ranked transfer portal class is headlined by cornerbacks Jabbar Muhammad and Kam Alexander.

Michigan (+550 via FanDuel)

Harbaugh's gone, J.J. McCarthy's gone, Blake Corum's gone, and 11 other Wolverines were selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. The cupboard should be bare, but it's not, and new head coach Sherrone Moore already beat Ohio State as acting head coach when Harbaugh was suspended.

While there will be plenty of new faces starting for Michigan this season, the Wolverines still have a ridiculously talented roster. On offense, tight end Colston Loveland and running back Donovan Edwards are viewed as two of the best in the country. On defense, Michigan has two potential top 10 NFL draft picks in Mason Graham and Will Johnson. This team shouldn't be overlooked.

How to bet on the Big Ten Championship

Since 2017, either Ohio State or Michigan has won the Big Ten Championship with the final regular season game between the two almost acting as the defacto conference title game. That could change this season with Oregon, Washington, USC, and UCLA all joining the conference. While the combination of expansion and the conference doing away with divisions will have some impact, it's likely that Ohio State or Michigan, or both, are playing in the title once again.

The best way to decide who to bet on to win the Big Ten championship at this point is to look at returning production and which programs attacked the transfer portal well. Both Ohio State and Oregon loaded up in the portal, while a deep sleeper like Nebraska returns the most production in the conference (and added a five-star freshman QB). It's hard to imagine two of Ohio State, Oregon, and Michigan won't be playing for the conference title.
