After winning the conference in 2023, Boise State is expected to open as the favorite by the 2024 Mountain West Championship odds from our best college football betting sites.

It was quite the rollercoaster of a season in 2023 for Boise State fans. The Broncos lost five of their first nine games before firing head coach Andy Avalos 10 games into the season. Interim coach Spencer Danielson then went on to win the Mountain West Championship before earning a promotion as the full-time head coach.

With Danielson in charge, the Broncos hope to ride the momentum of last year's conference championship run and repeat in 2024. While odds are not yet available at our best sports betting sites, Boise State is expected to open as the Mountain West Championship favorite.

In the first season of the 12-team playoff, the Mountain West Championship may end up acting as the de facto Group of Five championship with the winner potentially earning a playoff bid. Boise State has the shortest college football playoff odds in the G5.

Here is our look at the 2024 Mountain West championship market (odds via our best college football betting sites).

2024 Mountain West Championship odds

Now that the Pac-12 no longer exists, the Mountain West is the premier college football conference on the West Coast. It will even have a handful of games this season against a pair of Pac-12 orphans, Washington State and Oregon State. There's added importance this year in the Mountain West, too, with the winner potentially qualifying for the college football playoff.

The conference hasn't had a repeat winner since San Diego State in 2015-16, but Boise State is well positioned to change that this season. The Broncos return Heisman Trophy odds dark horse Ashton Jeanty.

Jeanty finished with 1,916 yards from scrimmage and 19 TDs as a sophomore and should help the Broncos recover from losing QB Taylen Green to Arkansas via the transfer portal.

Boise State plans to replace Green under center with USC transfer Malachi Nelson, a former five-star recruit. The loss of Green wasn't the only roster attrition the Mountain West felt this offseason, as UNLV's star QB Jayden Maiava took Nelson's spot at USC.

With Maiava gone, it opens the door for Fresno State to be the Broncos' biggest challenger after UNLV finished second in the conference in 2023.
