After opening as the preseason favorite to win it all, Georgia football couldn't parlay an SEC Championship into a title run after losing starting QB Carson Beck ahead of its 23-10 loss to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal.

The Bulldogs will still have a target on their back heading into next season, even with so many key defensive stars headed to the NFL and a new quarterback under center. That's nothing new for head coach Kirby Smart as he aims to bring a third trophy to Athens.

We're breaking it all down in our Georgia football 2025 season preview with way-too-early predictions, odds, schedule, and transfer portal updates.

Georgia football title odds 2025

Live updated college football odds from our best college football betting sites.

We're still awaiting the opening odds for next year's college football championship odds, but it would be shocking if Georgia doesn't open among the favorites next season even after its early exit in the first 12-team College Football Playoff.

The Bulldogs entered last season as the favorite with +400 odds, and two midseason stumbles couldn't keep Smart and Co. from winning the SEC and claiming the No. 2 seed in the CFP. Even with starting QB Carson Beck going down in the SEC title, Georgia was still among the favorites before that quarterfinal loss to Notre Dame.

There will be some major roster turnover this offseason, but with another star-studded freshman class and some key returners on the roster, expect another deep run next year.

2025 Georgia football key returning players (projected)

  • Gunner Stockton, QB
  • Branson Robinson, RB
  • Nate Frazier, RB
  • Dillon Bell, WR
  • Oscar Delp, TE
  • Earnest Greene, LT
  • Dylan Fairchild, LG
  • Micah Morris, LG
  • Jared Wilson, C
  • Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, DE
  • Christen Miller, DT
  • C.J. Allen, LB
  • Terrell Foster, LB
  • Daniel Harris, CB
  • Ellis Robinson IV, CB
  • Joenel Aguero, S
  • KJ Bolden, S

After making his first career start in the College Football Playoff, Stockton will have a full offseason as the QB1 heading into 2025. He'll be flanked by young running back Nate Frazier and should return one of his top receivers in Dillon Bell, while star tight end Oscar Delp seems likely to return for his senior season and build upon his draft stock.

While the Bulldogs are set to lose plenty of pro talent defensively, they should bring back two of their top five tacklers in linebacker C.J. Allen and safety KJ Bolden. Don't sleep on cornerback Ellis Robinson IV, who was the No. 2 prospect in the 2024 recruiting class.

  • Julian Humphrey, CB (transfer portal)
  • Justyn Rhett, CB (transfer portal)
  • Dan Jackson, S (graduation)
  • Jake Pope, S (transfer portal)
  • Malaki Starks, S (NFL draft)

Beck has already announced his intentions to pursue his 2025 NFL Draft odds, while fellow stars Mykel Williams and Malaki Starks could hear their names called in the first round in April. Keep an eye on running back Trevor Etienne, who could return for his senior season or test the waters of his pro career after one year at Georgia.

Team captains Dan Jackson, Tate Ratledge, and Chaz Chambliss - who helped the Bulldogs win back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022 - are all out of eligibility and have played their final season in Athens. That's also the case for top receivers Dominic Lovett and Arian Smith, who led the team in catches, receiving yards, and touchdowns last year.

2025 Georgia football recruits, transfer commits

  • Elijah Griffin, DL (No. 5 national, No. 1 GA)
  • Isaiah Gibson, ED (No. 9 national, No. 2 GA)
  • Zayden Walker, LB (No. 25 national, No. 4 GA)
  • Talyn Taylor, WR (No. 32 national, No. 1 IL)
  • Elyiss Williams, TE (No. 36 national, No. 5 GA)
  • CJ Wiley, WR (No. 76 national, No. 11 GA)
  • Darren Ikinnagbon, ED (No. 94 national, No. 2 NJ)

For the ninth consecutive season, Georgia will bring in a top-five recruiting class led by top-10 recruits Elijah Griffin and Isaiah Gibson, who should both make an immediate impact along the defensive line. The Bulldogs also bring in three four-star pass-catchers to help bolster the weapons at Stockton's disposal entering the 2025 season.

Oddly, Georgia has not landed any players through the transfer portal yet, though Smart and his staff still have plenty of time over the spring and summer to target players on the move and fill out the depth chart for next season.

*Conference matchup | ^FCS opponent

After navigating last year's SEC schedule with a conference-best two losses, Georgia will face another tricky test in 2025 on its way to Atlanta.

The Bulldogs open with two cupcake matchups at home before heading to Tennessee in Week 3. They'll host Alabama two weeks later in a rematch of last year's first loss, and they welcome Texas between the hedges for the first time in school history on Nov. 15.

Georgia football 2025 way-too-early prediction & expert analysis

While it would be foolish to doubt Smart and the Bulldogs, this will be the biggest rebuild for Georgia in recent memory. As many as four starters on the offensive line could be off to the NFL, along with Beck, Etienne, and potentially Delp.

Stockton hasn't played enough to know if he's really the answer at QB, and wide receiver was a huge problem this season and doesn't appear to look any better. Reloading through the portal and adding talent around Frazier, especially at receiver, could be the key for Georgia making another SEC Championship run.

The defense is set to lose even more, but Smart has proven between talent acquisition and scheme that this will always be a top-notch unit. However, with Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Texas on the Bulldogs' schedule, I'd have a hard time feeling confident taking the Over on 9.5 wins or higher unless more offensive playmakers are added.
